Milna Island Brac
Milna is located in the western part of the island Brač, 18 km away from Supetar. Milna is one of the most harmonious small places that displays Baroque urbanism on the Dalmatian coast and the best natural harbor on the island where even during the construction of the Diocletian Palace in Split Caesar's fleet was located in its safe harbor.
Milna was founded in the sixteenth century, and has developed around the castle of Cerinic families who built the church of St.Mary. Milna is dominated by representative two-floor houses of ship-owners and captains of the XVIII and XIX century. Their ships sailed throughout the Mediterranean and distant oceans. Milna was once a place where ships were built, actually, the autochthonous Dalmatian bracera ship was built here in ancient time (which was named after the Italian name of the island Brač - Brazza). Today there is a marina in Milna with several berths, modern equipment for the safe room and service for sailors from around the world. Marina in Milna has been rewarded with "European Blue Flag". This recognition is awarded to beaches and marinas that meet the strictest environmental standards in safety and purity of water and the environment.
The most important historical sites in Milna are the parish church of Our Lady of the Annunciation from year 1783 characterized by a rich interior with various images, sculptures and tombstones. Another particular example of cultural heritage lies in the bay Osibova that preserves the ruins of an old Gothic church. Interesting historical fact relating to Milna is that during the Napoleonic wars in 1820 the Russian fleet had its own naval base in Milna.
