Island Rab

The island of Rab is situated in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea, in the region of Kvarner. Unlike other islands in this area, Rab has a relatively small number of cities, to be exact there is eight. All of them are in the vicinity of the sea and are therefore considered tourist destinations. They are all built in the south-west direction to be protected from Bura (a very strong wind). The island has about 9 000 inhabitants. It is interesting that the number of people increases all the time. The main industry of the island is tourism. Rab was mentioned for the first time in a book of travels of a Greek geographer Pseudo Skilaks. According to some remains, there used to be settlements in this area. These remains date back to Greece and it is very likely that it was a Greek military colony which was founded in the 4th century BC. The most known person on Rab is St. Marin who founded the State of San Marino.
