Preko is a lovely little village located on the island of Ugljan. It is facing the city of Zadar and Velebit Mountain situated behind it. Only fifteen minutes of ferry ride will take you from Zadar to Preko. You will probably find yourself being in love with this charming Dalmatian place as most of the visitors do.
There used to be a hotel in Preko but couple of years ago it was demolished because someone wanted to build a new one. That never happened. Without the hotel the number of tourists decreased, which made some extra room on the beaches in Preko. We think it’s great when you have enough place on the beach to put your towel at. People in Preko are really friendly and they make excellent olive oil. You will have a chance to taste it at one of the konobas or restaurants in Preko that serve delicious Mediterranean food. That means plenty of fish, crabs and shellfish. We recommend that you try octopus made peka style. It is mouthwatering just writing about it.
Your accommodation in Preko will be at one of many apartments available to rent. Recently people started to build holiday villas in Preko, but there are only few of those available. The sea around Preko is extremely clean and beaches are gorgeous so you will be spending most of your holiday in Preko at the beach.
There aren’t any nightclubs in Preko and when the night falls all you can hear is complete silence that is occasionally disturbed by the sound of a cricket or a bird. If you feel like partying you can always go to Zadar or stay at one of the bars in Preko. During the summer there are a couple of festivals organized where you can listen to Croatian music and drink lots of wine. These are a hit among the locals and the parties go on until morning. People gather all over the place to talk, dance and drink plenty of wine. You might even like it if you can handle Croatian music. After a couple of glasses of wine in you won't miss entertainment in Preko and you probably won’t care for the music but will enjoy the fun.
When in Preko be sure to visit the hill called St. Mihovil where you will enjoy the magnificent view of the entire island of Ugljan and Zadar archipelago. If you haven’t fallen in love with the place before, it will happen on this hill.
